I had to do this eventually - even though most of you are done or done-ish with your character creation its good to have these all in one place in case the worst happens to your precious babies - or just as reference for when you're finish up before the game starts.
Dah Rules:
CHARACTER CREATION GUIDELINES:
20 point buy,
150 gold start
Level 1
No fucking summoners
Any race below 14 Rp is fine. No variant Aasimar. ANY RACE BELOW 8 RP WILL BE HOUSERULE BUFFED FOR YOUR PLEASURE.
Expect the game to be average to slightly below average wealth/progression.
Most important rule: make a character, not a stat block. I expect this to be a Rp heavy game, and if you start playing for convenience and profit over character thou shall be punished.
Special rules: background skills - 2 extra skill points per level that can be applied to strictly non combat skills, or special custom skills that are highly specific. Think Topiary or Lore: bird taxonomy.
2 traits no drawbacks. Remember that traits have to be in different trait categories.
Don't forget favoured class bonuses.
All 3rd party stuff has to be approved directly by me before being used.
No leadership or similar feats (including those to REALLY max out the amount of undead you can control)... i guess obviously
No Rage Prophets, Exalted or Evangelists because they make me rage (lel).
I'll probably think of other stuff too when and if it comes up.
Considerations:
Refer to some of the house rules we'll be using when making characters - they can very much influence some of your decisions.
Have a backstory - it can just be a few lines but the more you give me the more I have to use when integrating your character into the story and the more I can do with the game as a whole.
Though skill checks only apply indirectly to other PCs, your skills and stats will still have an influence in PC interactions. You may not be able to instantly discern the motives of a PC if you have a high sense motive and they have a low bluff - but it will help justify your character discerning their lies or discovering their hidden motives over a reasonable amount of time. Think of stats as 'passive' when dealing with other pcs, not active - Roleplay is king in the realm of PC/PC dealings.
Entirely a suggestion but I HIGHLY recommend you know at least one other person in the party before the story starts (acquaintance, friend, rival, lover? But please not full blown enemies.). It helps keep the party together and ease the beginning of the story. It'll certainly make MY life easier.
Know your haunts: Absalom is a big place with a lot of places - but a lot of it is left open or vague. A few inns and institutions and stores are named - but many more aren't. If you want to have a place in town that your character interacts with a lot or is important to your backstory but doesn't already exist just talk to me about it - we'll work it into the setting together.
This is an urban setting with all that entails. The guards aren't just active, but are quite strong and well trained, people aren't farmers but workers - travel is relatively short range and dungeons will not usually be dank caves or abandoned forts. The idea of the question adventurer is very different here and in the CITY OF ADVENTURERS are perceived very differently from the norm.
Know the Laws - if you have a character that is going to break every law in the city openly they wont last very long.
Know some people. If you're a traveler to the city you should know at least two people in some capacity. They don't need to be fleshed out - but the more I know about them the better I can play them how you intended. If you LIVE in the city you'll know plenty of people by name, try to put down 5 at least. These don't have to be friends - they can be any sort of relationship possible.
Routine: Most people have some basic routines they follow - what are they, and how could they hinder you... or benefit you... in the long run?
Why do you want the Mcguffin and where would you start looking for it? Why would you be in a lower end inn at the docks early in the morning a couple days after the Mcguffin's existence in the city has been all-but-confirmed?
Fell free to ask for more in the thread, or make some more yourself!
